- KWD> First, it really doesn't matter what you set your serial prefs
- KWD> to, since that will most likely be overridden by your
- KWD> communications program anyhow. Set your terminal to 57600 if it
- KWD> will go that fast and your serial port can handle it. If you
- KWD> have unreliable operation, reduce the speed.
-
- KWD> I would suggest nothing special in the way of setup strings.
- KWD> Just be sure that your are set for hardware flow control (rather
- KWD> than x-on/x-off) which is essential at higher speeds. The
- KWD> factory defaults for hardware flow control are enabled with
- KWD> AT&F1 and you can make this the default by entering AT&W.
-
- KWD> As for limited speed with your internet provider, this may be
- KWD> some bottleneck in the IP's own network, bad phone lines,
- KWD> problems with the setup of your terminal program, or perhaps
- KWD> something else related to what you are doing in particular. [For
- KWD> example, if your serial prefs are set to 31250 and your term
- KWD> program is 19200, you will be limited to 19200.] By the way,
- KWD> when you connect, what is the carrier speed message you get?
- KWD> Just because you have a 28.8 modem, there's no guarantee (in
- KWD> fact there is no reasonable likelihood) that you will ever
- KWD> connect that fast.
-
- KWD> The US Robotics BBS has many help files which discuss connection
- KWD> speeds.
-
- KWD> BTW, type ATI7 and check your supervisor version. If it's
- KWD> 6.0.4, e-mail me for more information.
